Not much dirt moving going on but at least we’re getting some snow

Between the two snow events this week we spent almost 40 hours plowing, cleaning, and salting lots for our customers. Gotta have some fun to break up the time. Terra Rubra Construction

As another year comes to an end I reflect on the year, the positives and negatives. The last couple years have been years of managing less revenue, trying out best to push through the economic strains has been daunting to say the least. We keep pushing and doing our best and we’re still here! Looking forward to another year with our good team and looking to some new direction and growth! Happy new year everyone! Happy 2024!

Took a couple extra days off this week to enjoy some time with the boys and some family. Over the years I’ve never been good at talking time from work to make family memories. I’ve always been a work-a-holic. It’s something I’m working to be better at. I’m learning that the work will still be there tomorrow but these moments won’t.

I tend to slack on the social media front especially when we’re busy working. Figured I’d throw some pics of projects from the last couple months. As we get into this year we have some pretty cool site projects on the books and we’re bidding a couple small site development project. Cheers to everyone out there grinding every day!

Back on her feet

I feel like in the world we live in today especially with social media there’s always that keyboard warriors out there are quick to sideline coach and give their opinion. Yesterday I made the decision to go work by myself for a few hours in the morning hauling topsoil from a stock pile. Nothing out of the normal and nothing I haven’t done 100 times. After getting the dump truck loaded I needed to re-position so I could get out some more dirt for the next load. I spun around to check behind me for any obvious obstructions, and all I saw was grass since the topsoil pile had been sitting there for quite a while and was quite overgrown. Without thinking anything of it I spun back around and started it back up to reposition myself. The mistake and the thing I didn’t know was somebody at some point had went up on that pile and dug a pretty big hole but the grass had grown in and from the cab of the machine I really couldn’t tell the difference or tell there was a hole there. As I backed up the machine eventually hit the tipping point and when it teetered it started to slide off the side off the topsoil pile. Not panicking I started rotating my track trying to get the parallel with the slope at the same time I was spinning the bucket around as well. Gravity moved faster than my machine did. Honestly talking to y’all today I’m lucky to be alive as you can see in the pictures I went cab first into the ground. After getting taken to the hospital and some emergency surgery to patch up a couple little bumps and bruises I’m still here and I’m good. The lessons that I’m taking away from this and that I hope everybody does one wear your damn seatbelt! I wasn’t wearing it and I really can’t tell you how I stayed in the cab during the rollover. Two, never be in too much of a rush to verify and check your surroundings. Like I said I looked right at the grass, had I taken 20 seconds and touched it with my bucket I would’ve noticed it was a hole. Or god for bid if I took the two minutes to jump out of the machine and go walk the pile a little bit. I’ve been around construction equipment for almost 20 years. It can happen to any of us.

A little update! Had to get my friends over at @externalpowerwashing to come up and give the girl a bath! Onto topsoil instal and grading tomorrow!

Having these grade control features in the cab makes us so much more efficient. Can’t wait to add the Engcon to this in a couple months!

Working a sewer replacement last week! Times are crazy! We’re blessed to have good partners and be staying busy! Stay safe, stay vigilant!

Spent the last couple weeks helping on of our customers wrap us a few outlying items. From fixing yards, prepping sidewalks, getting driveways ready for blacktop, and even ripped up an old parking lot, we do our best to help our customers in whatever they need done! #teameffort #kubotausa #terrarubraconstruction

Put down around 250 yards of dirt around this lot to make it sit right and fall properly. All that’s left is to rock hound one last time and the yard will be ready for seed and straw just in time for the new owners to move in this weekend! #kubotausa #teameffort

Another foundation in the ground today 👌👌

Yard correction today that was left pretty crappy by another contractor. Installed a French drain and regraded the entire area that was impacted. Took out a couple small trees and dressed the rear property line up.

Knocking out a few dry wells for one of our Builders. Starting another foundation later this week and have a few more over the next two weeks! Give us a call for all of your residential site, utility, septic, and grading needs!

Moved out about 300 tons off the Mechanicsburg HS project today!

We are working on filling seasonal positions for this upcoming winter! We are looking for subcontractors as well as folks who are laid off during the winter or like to make extra money! We are looking for the following: sidewalk laborers, operators for skid steers, tractors, and loaders. We are also looking for subcontractor that have trucks with plows or salters, skid steers, or loaders. Pay with be determined on equipment setups and experience. All subcontractors will also have to meet insurance requirements and provide documentation at contract signing. Been slacking on the photos the last couple weeks but it’s been very hectic (not really a bad thing) everyone is in the big fall push to get as much done as we can before the cold gets here!

There’s days i come home and say “im selling it all I’m done with the stress”. Then I go back and look at all the things I’ve built, all the customers dreams we’ve made come true, and all the relationships we’ve cultivated. That’s what makes the bad days worth it! That’s what keeps us coming back for more!

Finished the week out with a electric service run installation. We had to go about 600’ and had a transformer pad to install in the run. Great job to the guys for putting in the work this week with all our ongoing projects!

Doing a ton of mowing the last week! Cleaning up storm water management as well as mowing down lots for home owners. The Bobcat brushcat didn’t slow down one bit and has a great finish. No doubt this week was ridiculously hot out. Today was over 100 with heat index! All that and my crews still have it 110% this week! Ready to gear up and hit it again next week!
